Show - 33- FO: Um hum. DL: There's quite a difference between the Paiute and Ute. FO: Tell me how the Paiutes and the Navajos used to get along. Did they get along xvell? DL: You know, at the time x-? hen I xras a young man, they used to live good, you know, feed each other and . . . GT: Um hum. Utes and Paiutes. DL: The Navajos- there x> 7as not very many Navajos, that's why. There were just a few, one over here, one so many miles off and the Paiutes come to visit and they come to visit the Paiutes. And they had some trading between them Paiutes. They tan buckskins and the Navajo try- to buy it with a sheep. They traded for sheep and sometimes horses. FO: For the buckskins? DL: Um hum. FO: Did they use the buckskins for religious . . . DL: Um hum. And they used to make shoes, you know, moccasins. FO: The Navajos made the moccasins. DL: Yah. FO: Now, did the Paiutes use the buckskin for Moccasins too? DL: Yah, the Navajos make the moccasins for them. GT: For Utes and Paiutes? DL: Paiutes, yah. FO: The Paiutes then would tan the leather but the Navajos would make the moccasins? DL: Um hum, yah. |
