Show - 4- FO: Um hum. DL: All them Paiutes, them old timers. FO: How far down into the Navajo country did the Paiutes have farms etc.? DL: Way down what they call, x^ e used to have a big bunolh of sheep, you knoxtf, and horses, and x^ re went clear down to Shonto but there was one Navajo that was really a friend to us and we find out all the water, we know everything xvhere x-^ e keep our sheep in the summertime. FO: Um hum. DL: Just move, you know, away from Navajo Mountain and take part of our horses, you know, and that's x< 7hy I know the country doxnm there. FO: What was the Navajo's name, the man who was friendly to you? AL: I know him by his Navajo name, he x « 7as . . . FO: What was his Navajo name? DL: I can't remember now. It's been a long time he died. FO: I'm sure it has been a long time. How old are you, Mr. Lehi? DL: Oh, I'm over sixty- five. FO: You're over sixty- five. DL: Um hum. FO: Over at Navajo Mountain over there did your folks just herd the sheep or did they raise crops? DL: Oh, they had farm down in what they call Paiute Canyon. They still got that farm. FO: Um hum. |
