DL: There was quite an assignment. They used to take Utes . . . GT: Out there? DL: Um hum. To Rainbow Bridge and back. Take us maybe sometimes two weeks. FO: So you went xtfith the pack trains down there. DL: Um hum. I've done a lot of trips like that? DO: And were the trips conducted by the trading post? DL: Um hum. Yah, and some of it was conducted by the Weathers, like John Weathers and Ben Wethers. Ben Weathers, his name was not ? he had one side, you know, to . . . GT: One arm was gone? DL: Um hum. GT: Is that what his Indian name refers to? DL: Yah, he had a Navajo name, they call me and then he started that little trading post. I remember they have a- you know they had big mules, you know they could drag them poles just like a tractor. GT: Um hum. DL: And they pull, they cut some of them timbers, them . . . FO: Pine trees? DL: Yah, them big ones you know, to put it for a roof, you knox- 7. They done it. |
