Was it mainly working x^ ith the cattle and sheep? DL: Everything, you know, cattle and sheep and horses. I done a lot of work. At that time we didn't have no cars. We just have to go and we had telephone but if they wanted us to go someplace they call us up and send us someplace, maybe take me txjo, three days. GT: To get there? DL: Um hum. But I didn't know where to go but I find out. FO: Um hum. DL: Because the Indians- I talk Navajo, you knox< 7. Better than I talk English. Therefore I x< ras a good Navajo by that time, when I was a young man. FO: Did you enjoy working for the government? DL: Um hum. FO: Why did you quit? DL: Well, one thing I quit because they x^ anted me to be a policeman on the Navajo reservation. So I just quit. FO: You didn't want to be a policeman then? Why not? DL: Well, I had too many friends. |
