La maculature est composee de veines entortil!6es, assez fines et assez courtes melees a quelques petites taches et quelques petits points noirs et d autres d'un gris violace pale. Ces veines sont ras-semoiees au gros bout pour y former une couronne peu fournie, tandis que sur le reste de la surface il y a seulement quelques points et rarement une petite veine. U n ceuf a le sommet barbouille' d'un reseau de veines, et quelques points sur le reste de la surface. Sur d autres, au lieu de veines il y a des taches et quelques stries rassem-blees aussi au gros bout. Dans une ponte les ceufs sont sans maculature, ils n ont que quelques taches rougeatres, tres-pales, k peine distinctes; ces oeufs etaient accompagnes d'un ceuf de Molothrus, dont la moucheture, composee de points pales est beaucoup plus nombreuse, et beaucoup plus distincte; le vert du fond de cet ceuf est d une nuance un peu plus pale que celui des ceufs de VAphobus. Stolzmann dit qu'il est assez commun aux environs de Santa Luzia,et qu'il se nourrit de crustaces marins. En volant il a l'habi-tude d'etendre sa queue de sorte qu'observe de cote il parait la porter en travers. Deux nids de cet oiseau, trouves a la fin de Janvier et au commencement de fevrier, contenaient chacun deux ceufs. Ces ceufs sont oves allonges, a petit bout plus ou moins obtus; leur fond est d'un vert pale, a peu pres comme celui du Pinson d'Europe, varie de quelques veines noires foncees et d'autres grises violettes pales, grosses et plus ou moins fines, fort entortillees et meie'es avec quelques taches de la m e m e couleur; les veines sont rassemble'es en une sorte de couronne, tres-irreguliere, dans une des extremite's ouau milieu de l'ceuf; quelques autres veines, ordinairement plus courtes, quelques points et quelques taches sont eparses sur le reste de la surface. Les bords de ces grosses veines et des grosses taches sont lavees en une couleur rose, qui colore une grande partie de la surface du fond, comme cela a souvent lieu sur les ceufs mentionnes plus haut.
