(\: .' /,- ' .' - - .. ,~--Union Feb 20th 1887 Union Times Dear Editor it is with pleasure I write to our Valuable and interesting paper. there are a great many things that a person could write about which might be instructive to the members of the Association which would be a benefit to us if we would only follow up and put into practice the advice given. now in the first place if this is an improvement Association we should make up our mind to study not only the Works of the Church But also scientific , Historical and other Works which would have a tendency to Cultivate our minds. We can fmd that our Greatest men are those that have read and studied scientific Works in search for Knowledge. But we are not all organized alike some would like a good History Where another would prefer Light Literature There are a great many of our Young people that do not know anything of either of the History of the United States or the Countries where there progenitors came from. Now I for one as a member of the Association would like to see us Have a good Library of Different Grades of reading so as each one could have His choice of What they would like to study But we are a Working Community and are not .overburdened with riches But I think each and every member of the Association should try and put a little in the treasuty whenever he can We are living in a time when the Latter Day Saints should be in the possession of all the Knowledge that they can be prosessed a great many have to go out to the World to preach and in a great many instances Have to combat there eloquence with the most Learned men in the land and unless they are possessed of the Knowledge relying on the spirit of the Lord it will go very Hard f ./ 171 |
