The car had a parking ticket on i t s windshield, xrhich the Professor had half-expected. He pulled i t from beneath the wiper blade and thrust i t into his pocket, then got in and started the motor. The Doggie Diner, xrhere he xas to meet his students, was just a few blocks axay, at the intersection of Nineteenth Avenue and Junipero Serra. He debated a moment xrhich route to take to get there, finally deciding to drive up to Junipero Serra, xmich would make i t unnecessary to drive past the campus. Six students xrere there when he arrived, txro of them inside, eating a t one of the bare tables, the others huddled in a group beside the l i t t l e building, at the edge of the parking l o t . The Professor xas anxious to know how many cars there were, so he xrould knoxr xmether or not he could drive directly from the house in Pacifica after class to pick up his xrife.
