Show -138- "Do we have to have that?" his wife Inquired. "Just for a minute," he assured her. "I want to hear if there is any report of today's meeting." As they drove toward the freeway, the announcer confirmed what the Professor had thought as they came out of the house: there would be rain tomorrow. Then there were several inconsequential accounts of events in the city and state. At least they were getting the local news. Just as they entered the freeway, the annolncer reported the meeting at the university. He had interviewed the two local members of the Board of Trustees. Both said about the same thing, they were disturbed about the faculty resolution? The older trustee said that what really troubled him was the threat to strike? He would have to look into the implications. He didn't think the faculty was wise to threaten the Board. The real shock came in an announcement that followed. The Chancellor of the University System, the reporter stated, had sent word to the President that he wanted the Black instructor who had been involved in the altercation in the student editor's office fired. It was, the President had told the reporter, an ultimatum. The Chancellor not only wanted him fired? he wanted him kept off the campus. "The bastards!" the Professor said, using his favorite expletive? "The dirty bastards!" He used the plural, because he was sure who was behind the order. It was the governor?
