Show -185- Chapter Thirteen The Methodist Church x-jas two blocks east of the campus. The Professor left home a l i t t l e early, because he was unfamil i a r with the neighborhood and unsure about finding a parking place. He needn't have worried. The church had i t s own parking lot, and there were only one or two automobiles parked • there when he drove up. He sat a moment before getting out, hoping someone he knex* might a r r i v e , and he could accompany him into the unfamiliar building. When no one did, he began to worry that he might have misunderstood the directions and come to the wrong church. He got out of his car and t r i ed a side door, but i t was locked. He walked around to the front, and the door vias open. Inside, he found himself in a small t i l e d L'entrance h a l l, d where the sound of his feet on the hard surface echoea, loudly in the heavy silence. He moved quickly to the wide carpeted steps beyond that l i f t e d him onto what seemed to be the entrance to the chapel. He t r i e d , one a f t e r the other, the series of doors, but a l l were locked. He stood a moment, uncertain, then noticed a hallway beyond that seemed to lead doxm the far side of the building. Down i t , he sax* another row of doors, more widely spaced, on the wall opposite the chapel. He t r i ed the f i r s t door? and i t xsas open. He peered into what x*as obviously a classroom.
