In the first of these two works papermakin was treated in an insignifica t way on pages 251- 57, in the second part of the volume; while in the work by Mexfa pages 306 310are devoted to the origin of paper. It is curious that, althoug papermaking had its European origin in Spain, there are very fe Spanish books, cither ancient or modern, that deal with the craft ‘We now come to the important book of Georg Andreae Bockle which was printed in Niirnberg in the year 1662 under the titl f, Theatrum machinarum novum exhibens opera molaria e aquatica constructum industria. One plate shows the water wheel,stampers, vat, press, an the finished paper hung to dry.
