These items, however, are not for th Dr. Rosenbach; but, nevertheless, many of the xhlngs are exceed ingly difficult to find, and years have been spent in the acquisitio of certain obscure books and p.\mphlc(x It s fortunate that thi hobby does embrace a field where money counts not nearly s much as do time, patience, nnd persistence. Books that interest me from a collectors standpoint seldom find their way to the auctio room, one must seek them out from remote and hidden places, a there are few bibliophiles in this. particular class of material, an itstollcc(mg receives no publ ty,-"paperiana" seldom come at the "great sales. e first bibliography that I compiled was completed in 191 and listed only the books that related dircctly to the watermark of handmade papers. The compilation embraced 167 items; now alf as many more titles could be added to the list. A collection i never complete; no matter how large it may become there is always something more. I now have all of the items listed in thi mmmgnphy, Some are pamphlets of only a few pages; other title e magazine articles, scraps gathered here and there i many langmgm any one of which would not cost so much as som first editions of modern fiction, but Khn time and patience require in their assembling were considerable. In the more modern work it is the thin, obscure, paper-covered p1mphlc[s that are difficult t locate, as these were printed in small editions, and after bemgonc read were cast aside as of no future use or value; the big, b volumes turn up readily, but the leaflets and brochures on papermaking and watermarkin are clusive To anyone interested in gathering together a collection o al Imag © 2004 University of Utah.
