Show [Senate Journal pp. 22-39, Jan. 4, 1927] Committee to Notify Governor The President designated Mrs. Ivy, Representative from Maricopa County, Mr. Jones, Representative from Cochise County, Mr. Akers, Senator from Maricopa County, and Mr. Colter, Senator from Apache County, as a committee to notify the Governor that the Legislature was convened in joint session and to escort the Governor to the House Chamber. At 11:20 o'clock, a. m., the Sergeant-at-Arms announced His Excellency, the Governor of Arizona George W. P. Hunt, who delivered the following message. The Governor's Message Mr. President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Special Session of the Eighth Arizona Legislature. As the head of the executive branch of the State government upon which devolves the responsibility of administering and enforcing the laws for the protection of society and of conducting negotiations with other states, I believed it was incumbent upon me to convene the Eighth legislature in session to consider two questions of such outstanding importance that I deemed it inadvisable to await the assembling of the regular session of the legislature. These two questions which are set out in detail in my proclamation calling this special session have to do with providing for the conservation and protection of Arizona's interests in the great resources of the Colorado River and for their development, and providing for the financing of the State Highway Department so that our |
