Show . ·. I TERVIEW: Cuellar Page 10 the social ills because that wi ll get rid of his job? RC That's a verj tough question t ) answer; and I think I can only speculate and try to give you a somewhat intelligent answer to that, because sure, if you as· me that question m a simple manner, you know, do you think SER will become and continue to be relevant and this type of thing I would very simply say that out of .obligation to the organization, I do work for it and I know that we are Eloing great things. I also know that we have a lot .. of problems but I would say, yes, I think SER is going to survive. Yes, I think SER is great. Yes, I think SER is going to try to do what it is supposed to do, but it is really more complicated than that. As I told you, there is a lot of forces on both sides . On one s ide there are the forces to stop an SER from getting bigger, to stop an SER from even existing . Already, right now I think many people in the country who are against an organization like that would try to find ways of stopping its growth. , There are the forces on the other side that say, yes, we need SER, we want to create SER and etc. and etc, so it is a very difficult position for an organization like that. I think what SER becomes is going to depend alot on many faGtors, primarily how wise the Mexican-American looks at SER, an organization like SER. For example, it's very possible that, say the GI Forum and LULAC may look at SER as a thr~at. As a competitor in their own field. |
