They have one object in mind and that's to better the population and they share that feeling and they'll do anything that needs to be done and one of the best examples, of course, is SER. Nobody could ever believe that two organizations as big and as competitive, as LULAC and the GI Forum have been for years could actually get together and form one organization, to become the largest manpower system in the country. And what is more, I have seen the Board of Directors of SER work for over three years, and every time that they have had issues to deal with, it's always the betterment of the total population, the Spanish-speaking, instead of t~e organization's interest. It's amazing but it's true and few people would probably believe it. GC: Haven't the questions always been on methods more than on the philosophy? RC: Sure, smaller issues. One example happened here in Los Angeles. They had a lot of problems with a local agency called EYOA. It's a funding, the local CAP agency really had a funding of about 50 million dollars. The problem was between the Blacks and the Spanish-spea king. Well, some professor, local professor decided that that was a national phenomena, that Blacks were· |
