There were sixty men there -- Malta, Montana had some very large corrals. I was all over that area, me and El£as, my son. I \''as in Glasgmv shearing sheep, and in Circle, Montana. That was a regular little town. I sheared sheep for forty years, and perhaps mo~e. I came here to Fort Garland to live in 1928. I came here with ~y wife and the children. My work was to irrigate the land of the ranchers here. And I would help the neighbors to plant grass. At that time, the work of planting grass was different than it is today nowadays they have more equipment~ At that time I became acquainted with Mr . A. M. Weaver, who was the Secretary of the irrigation district. I also met here Wayne Nashman . At that time, that I knew Wayne Nashman, he was working for the highway handling machinery. He wasn't boss then, but perhaps later he did become boss. I operated this ranch on the other side of the road. It was called Kimball Ranch. The administrator of that ranch was my boss, Mr . Ellis Orp, from Alamosa. He was a lawyer. He was the administrator of the deceased Campbell. Campbell was the owner of the ranch, but when he died Mr. A. M. Weaver took over as the administrator of that ranch. And, do you know that I ran that ranch and I took care of that ranch for two years and seven months? I planted it . I had two companions. One of them still lives here in Fort Garland, Agustin Trujillo . The other one is still alive, but he lives in Taos . His name is Emilio Jaramillo. Among the |
