Show Interview: Duvan Lujan Page Sixteen that started here, they had quite a few issues ... there was in those days there were things to fight all the time, things to fight for, causes to fight for but they were not popular, now they have legal defense, legal aid, and many of the things that have been the ..• the direct results of all this protesting, all this action groups and so forth when at one time were very very unpopular and people had to put their neck in the line, this is what is so discourraging to me that they ... we had a man by the name of Charlie Cansino for instance Vallejos, they put their necks on the line pickiting out here for schools because the valley schools they were not as good, or at least they were not been funded in .•. a? far as ... keeping the mouth you know, and, maintaining them as improving them like the new schools up in the northern part of town, and they stood out there and demanded the same right for the valley people as for the high people, and subsequently one of them has a degree from MIT and the other has a degree from the University of Albuquerque, both are personas nongratas as far as teaching in the system here is concern, and then when we employeed them at least we in the G.I. Forum are very much involved in trying to seek employment now with government funds, rather than giving it to some other Johnny come lately we try to get the people that nobody wants •.. to make sure that they get employment because we know that they can do the job, and the stablishment withing the BOP program is the first people that are knocked on the head and this is something that is the repetition |
