So then, of course, we move into the Hernandez case . For at this time our jobs was to use the G. I . Forum locally Because if you haven't local support you cannot do anything . ~~ey would tear you to pieces . They would start inuendoes or ins·Qlts or accusations, but we had someone locally, protested like in Three Rivers, like in Beeville, see? Then you will not go in unaided. You have the authority of this . 'We are a state organization, this is my local . I have the right to come here as a sta~e chairman.' Which I was for two or three years, coming in to protest this action . And backup I do. But see, why all the people and grorrps never did . They never had local background, nor local roots. So this time we find discrimination in juries. Of course the jury system in Texas has been notoriously lacking in equality with Mexican people. So it was decided suddenly that when Pete Hernandez, a Mexican- American killed another l"lexican- American in Jackson County in Edna, that in this, he was found guilty .
