Interview; Duvan Lujan Page Nineteen much of a thought, I know it identify the Mexican community, a group of Chicano this and the group of Chicanos that, we used to say todos los Chicanos en contra de los Rusos and this kind of thing, but is just like ... to us any body that was a migrant out there more or less were Chicanos and this so called farmers sort of speak were Rusos ... but I never .... I have heard all kinds of ideas as to where it might hadstarted, I never gave it too much of a thought, a lot of people resent the term Chicano, and every­time I know somebody that does, I keep repeating over and over again, I get a kick more so than anything ... it's a •.. I only ... last Friday Las Brasa, Romeros used to be a we you know, the country secretary, democratic party or something and of course they are living in the past too there are some of the old coyotes we used to have and at least speaking about that one individual, they resent the word Chicano, it was derrogatory it was foreign like, and it was ... place them in a position of been somewhat crude, or hillbilly sort of speak and I said ... well, as far as I know, the history of the west were built by chicano people that were with it, it wasn't built by the people blue nouses so ... all my friends are chicanos ... GC: Do you think that the government opened the doors, money, do you think the term chicano became respectable them?
