Show The following is an interview with Mr. Ben Romero, Sr., Route 1, Box 2, Fort Garland, Colorado. The interview is being conducted in Fort Garland, Colorado on August 13 and 14, 1973 by John R. Tapia . JT: dr. Romero was born on 13, February 1882, at Rancho de Taos, ,.'ew dexico. The following is an English translation of the interview, which was conducted in Spanish. BR: I am going to begin in this manner the story of my life. I was born 13 February 1882, in Rancho de Taos, New Mexico [Ranches of Taos]. I am 92 years of age, more or less . I was for a time a postal clerk under the administration of Yus. Maria Agust{n Ortega, my wife; for seventeen years, nine months . I also served as a deputy police officer under the administration of Mr. Manuel Trujillo , two years, seven months. I am an off - shoot of the past century. My life is what we might call "to work . " I had various businesses with my fathers. I had the good fortune to have been able to help my father and my uncles, to safeguard the sheep in the mountains of Tierra Amarilla for various years, until Mr . Lawford N. Caton took possession of the power of Tierra Amarilla and we had to leave with our sheep to the desert of the Taos County, Tres Piedras, Servilleta, Nuevo Mejico, which is now Taos Junction • .. . . ••.. and , then, after we could not manage the sheep for the scarcity of pasture, we sold them, and I launched myself on a life of adventure.
