Show INTERVIEW: Lujan Page 26 DL: stadium, a football stadium, and he is revered by many people, but they don't realized that while this man was superintendent of school is when this complete void of Spanish surname principals and things existed and have been about surname. GC: Had there been any surname people before him, you know, had there been school teachers, or principals? DL: Well, we had a guy with a master's degree that was doing janitorial work in one of the grade schools. We had a Mrs. Pino . that I interviewed personally that taught a second grade, in a little grade school that I had gone to back when I was a little kid, and she was still in the same grade school, ready to retire. This was a common thing with Spanish surname teachers in this area. The only man at that time that I knew of that had a principal position is a man by the name of Tom Tenorio at a school and he was very much involved in politics. So I believed that what helped Tom in having that position was the fact ... not that he was a school man, but the fact that he was also involved in politics. But since that time we had ... Sabedra, who is now a bilingual man, Montoya, we had Sanchez that used to be a. exercise teacher or a physical ed teacher ... now he is the head of ... from there he went to assistant of West Mesa High School.
