'..:'ERVIEW: Garcia Page 3 didn't really have much to say or do, because any teacher certainly in South Texas, could be reprimanded, overrun or fired by any principal, superintendent who, at the mercy of ignorant members of the school board which at most times were farmers . So I gave the hope of achieving liberty and freedom by being a teacher . Then I shifted into medicine which promised not only greater compassion, understanding, and love for humanity, but also more independence economically . But going back to the history deal , there is no question in history we were reading that the United States was go ahead and be in war every , practically every twenty years, and you start up at 1770 to 1775; 1812; 1832; 1965; ... 1832; 1846; 1865, and then of course you have the 1898, the 1898 Mexican-American or the Spanish Wars . And you have World War I, 1914- 1916 ... World War, and down the line, so if you want we would be in a war around thirty- eight or forty. And ever since then, we have a war every twenty years . So then I thought I should get prepared. I started thinking of military obligations and I got prepared for it. But this is in the depression I graduated out of school and then of course, my field was always and has been always of course the medical field .
