Celui de Delphes ctoit encore plus rempli de richefîcs , puifqu'ii a donne lieu à Xercès & à Pirrhus de mettre des armées fur pied pour Palier piller : Néron en enleva en une feule fois cinq cens Morues de cuivre , faites par les meilleurs ftatuaires de l'Antiquité'. Le Temple de Jupirer Olympien n'a pas été moins coniidérable, puif-que la figure de cette Divinité étoit d'or, & de cinquante pieds de hauteur , aflîfc dans un Trône d'or 6c d'ivoire , fait par le fameux Phidias, dont le travail ctoit plus eftimé que la matière : la couverture de ce Temple ctoit de inarbre taillé en forme de thuiles, qui a également paffé pour un chef-d'œuvre de l'art. Quinte - Curce , dans l'Hiftoire d'Alexandre le Grand , dit que quand Jupiter Harnmon rendoitfcs Oracles, les Prêtres le portoient dans une nef d>cr garnie de quantité de coupes d'or- |
