Un Poète peut-il mieux exprimer par un Poème épique ou dramatique en cinq actes , les Conquêtes d'Alexandre fur Darius, que l'a fait M. le Brun par la repréfentation des cinq tableaux qu^il nous a donnez, où l'on voit d'un coup d'œil toute l'étendue de l'action exprimée par la force de l'imagination de cet excellent Peintre. La main n'a aucune part à toutes ces chofes , qu'autant qu'elle efl conduite prir la tête : ainiî à proprement parler , il n'y a rien dans la Peinture qui ne foit l'effet d'une profonde fpé-cnlation: il n'y a pas îufqii'aumani-ïnent du pinceau , dont le mouvement nr contribue à donner aux objets l'ef^rit & le caractère.
