Ce qu'on veut appcller partie matérielle dans la Peinture ,11'eft autre choie que l'exécution de la partie fpi-rituelle qu'on lui accorde, & qui eft proprement Perret de la penfée du Peintre , comme la déclamation eft l'crîet de la penfée du Poète, dont la plume, l'encre de le papier font les effets matériels de la Poéiie. Mais il faut bien un autre art pour exécuter la penfée d'un tableau, que pour déclamer une Tragédie : pour celle-ci 5 il y a peu de préceptes à ajouter aux talens extérieurs de la nature ; mais l'exécution de la Peinture demande beaucoup de réflexion ôc d'intelligence : il furfit presque uniquement au déclamatcur de s'abandonner à fon talent, ôc d'entrer vivement dans fon fujet : le Comédien Rofeius s'en acquitoit avec tant de force , que pour celaleul il méritoit, dit Cicéron, d'être fort regretédes honnêtes gens, |
