Show Record to have been surveyed in 1884 by P. Holman. Exhibit 502 is not a very accurate map. 3904 Will R. Chenoweth, recalled, and testified for compalinant as follows: I have checked my survey sheets with Mr. Hoyt's Exhibit No. 80, pages 7 and 8. Pages 7 and 8 refer to that portion of the 3905 river from Halls Crossing to the mouth of the Green. I have checked those sheets with a profile which I made from my field sheets. I checked the profile through that stretch of the river. The profile sheets are in Exhibit 10. Will H. Chenoweth testified on re- cross examination as follows: 3906 The profile sheets which I have examined have no notation of rapids on them except the steepness is show where the rapids occur. I was on the ground and observed the rapids. I noted as rapids on Sheets 7 to 13, both inclusive, of Exhibit 10, all rapids that were visible upon the river from actual examination of it. 3907 I would like to change my testimony that I gave this morning that I indicated on Sheets 7 to 13, both inclusive, of Exhibit 10 every rapid that was visible from an actual examination of the river, because it has occurred to me that rapids were not indicated with a symbol on that portion of Glen Canyon. They are smaller rapids than I had been encountering. I put down on my map everything that I called a rapid, except that in the inking the symbol has not been put on two or three of the rapids in Glen Canyon. 3908 One of the principal purposes of my survey there and of my preparation of the maps was to definitely fix the location of rapids. The slope shown on any one of the profile sheets, such as Sheet 54, Exhibit 10, is a gross distortion of the actual 564 |
