Show Pledge Day Pledge day brings With other things A little change we all may note, For on that day, The girlie gay, Becomes a cruelly hard-worked goat. This Johnnie no more says "goldarn," "Gee whiilikins," nor yet "consarn." He wears not suits of grey and brown, For checks and stripes have toned him down. He no more drives a skinny skate, His chimmy four is up to date. His necKties now are in the style, Sophistical is his smile- But why this change in Johnnie, dear? His old friends know him not this year. The right idea, and rightly stated- At college Jack's been educated. Bum Er Studen A bum Er Studen (may his tribe decrease) Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace And saw within the darkness of his room, Seeming to darken and intensify the gloom, A specter writing with an aspect grave; Exceeding' beer had made Er Studen brave, And to the being in the room he said: "What writest thou?" The specter raised his head, As o'er the page his pen flew fast, And answered: "The names of those who've learn e-J enough to pass." "And is mine one.." said A Bum. "Nay, not so," replied the specter. A bum spoke more slow, but gayly still, And said, "Please writs me, 'tis enough, As one who well has learned to bluff." NOVEMBER. 3-Political debate held in the assembly and the Engineers conduct an anarchist rally which Van succeeds in breaking up. 5-Winter starts with its first snow. 7-Election day. Hop manages to find fifteen deserving Republican election jobs (but they didn't get paid). 13-Frosh girls demand that the buttons for the frosh boys be turned over to them. The frosh go to hear a lecture by one Prof. Ander, but the sophs stay away, as they are wise. 16-Several pots are run so as to enable University men to make the journey to Colorado. Some were lucky and others just spent money. Dean Bennion gets peeved at the gambling and preaches ethics. Even Coray and "Six Hairs" contribute. Team leaves "on the 5:15." 20-"Welcome-home celebration for the defeated team. Wagons put on the steps of the Administration building. Later is painted by the frosh per request. 21-Pete refuses to move the wagon. Late in the shrouds of closing night the wagon is decorated with numerals and also the words. "Which way will the wind blow?" 22--The students refuse to recognize the asthetic sense of the faculty and vote to leave the wagon where it is, until the Tigers are conquered on Thanksgiving day, also condemn the act of painting. P. A. E. petitions S. A. E. Dean Leary warns the noisy barristers not to make so much noise. 23-The barristers bury their dead infant, "enthusiasm." 27-The Skai Bees are pledged with bottles of Sunnybrook. 30-A cold, sad day wrought with dissension. U students see a sad tail. (Tiger's.) DECEMBER. 2-The Theta Sigma announces its existence. 6<-Van Pelt starts to take dancing lessons. 8-Skai Bee's initiate, and the eyesight and sense of hearing of two regents is ruined, as well as that of all of the students who attended the rotten performance. Plot to charge for the exhibition fails, as the crowd refuses to buy the beer for the bunch. 11-Aunt Lucy starts to entertain the girls in preparation to the big dance and they are given tickets to well (by request). 14-Varsity Dramatic club opens season in Provo and all escape. Senior law students get good practice in the student court, and as a result the bewildered judges acquit Langford and Sutton. JANUARY. 3-College re-convenes, and Pete comes with a regular New Year's resolution limp, which is unexplainable. Baird's engagement is bared by a diamond. 5-Pete, Herm and Bateman substitute for the governor of "Wyoming in the assembly. Scribblers initiated into Sigma Upsilon and have big banquet, where Freddy Sachs breaks his New Year resolutions. 8--Pete called into conference with the "Little Czarina" and in a few minutes receives an urgent telephone call to come to the Chrony, but she was only talking to him on manners, so it didn't make any difference. 14-Cutler mysteriously disappears. Open Forum club tries to meet at the capitol, but Mor-tenson gets locked in the dome because of the failure to use his dome. 16-The wind blew ice and many get their ears and noses frozen. 155 |
