Show Tennis 1916 TENNIS early in the season of 1916 showed its tremendous popularity with the students of the University, as the two courts were utilized every hour possible. It was not an infrequent sight to see lovers of the net and racquet game in the dusk of the evening1, or in the cool freshness of the early morning- hours, sing-ing" out the song of the racqueter, "love-forty, advantage," and the like. From such enthusiasm nothing1 but g-ood results could be expected in competitive matches. Feramorz Little succeeded in winning- the school tournament sing-les, and with the aid of Charles Van Pelt also captured the doubles trophy. In the intercollegiate matches Utah sailed swimmingly through the state championship race and hung- another championship to her already overflowing- repetoire. Utah's racqueters defeated the A. C. in singles and doubles in straight games. When the B. T. U. was encountered a scare was also met. Frumpkin won the first singles match handily. The Utah doubles team of Little and Frumpkin next went up against the fast B. T. U. doubles team. The church-school racqueters won the first two sets, and it took the Crimson players a long time to finally win the third set. The score in this set was 9-7. Taking the next two sets Utah won the match and the state championship. In two post-season matches against University of California players the University lost, but withal, the season could hardly have been better. 146 v\ ¦ |
