The accompanying cut represents the final scene, with the principals of the opera called to the stage for the Utonian photographer. The production was a brilliant one and far outshone any local production yet attempted by local talent. The press of the city and musical papers of the country generally spoke in glowing terms of the production and the probable effect on musical culture of the west. The principals, chorus, ballet, supers and a portion of the orchestra were selected from the student body and faculty of the University, only three principals being chosen from the ranks of professionals. The production required the services of nearly four hundred persons, three hundred of whom were selected from the University and the training school. 106 x> |
