Show THE ADJACENT GARAGE Photo Ref: G1-8, Drawing Ref: A-57 FEATURE #11 Aprx. Date: 1951 Existing conditions: In addition to the primary structure on this site, the school district built a garage in 1951 to house and maintain the district's two school buses. The garage is a 30'x40', non-reinforced concrete block building with a matching brick face on one facade, a non matching brick face on another, a wood framed flat roof, and two large roll up doors. The interior walls are painted concrete block. The garage is sited away from public view and is only a couple of feet from the Southwest corner of the Industrial Arts Building (lAB). Were it to be saved, the garage would require extensive structural modifications, a new roof, utility hook ups, fire protection, and extensive masonry repairs. It is our intent to demolish the garage to; 1; restore the site's integrity around the primary structure, 2; provide the best possible brick match for needed repairs, and 3; to accommodate required parking for the primary building. A determination of the garage's insignificance has already been made by the Park City Historic District Commission (see exhibits ~ In support of our efforts to demolish the garage structure; We believe the garage is insignificant to the overall historic site and is non contributory to the Historic district as a whole because the Garage; 1. is less than 50 years old. 2. is sited as to be almost completely hidden from public view. 3. siting compromises the integrity and circulation around the site. 4. does not add to the districts sense of time and place. 5. design is of no merit. 6. materials are of no significance except for the East facade's brick facing. 7. workmanship is of no historic consequence . 8. was only used by a few people; the School District's mechanics and bus drivers, and therefore has and had little significance as a public facility or as a private garage to most of Park City's citizens a. |
