The Atalantas I have simply placed in separate columns, not knowing their specific names, but with notes for guidance. Of the Ianthinas I found several species; one I submitted to Dr. A. Adams, R.N., who informs me it is new (I. nitida), and has kindly undertaken to describe it, together with another new shell I procured*. * " DEAR CAPTAIN KNOCKER,-I think the small Ianthina, which occurred somewhat abundantly in your cruise, is a new species, and, on account of its shining appearance, may be named I. nitida. It belongs to the same section (lodes, Morch) as does the pretty I. exigua; but the whorls are more finely striated, and |
