It turns out, as we had anticipated, to be the same as F. chilensis, Gay; and the species must therefore be called F. ardesiaca, Tschudi's name having the priority. This is quite as well, since, as we have already stated (I. s. c. p. 1 77), it is very doubtful whether this Coot ever occurs in Chili, the only authority for its so doing being Gay's untrustworthy assertion. 4.
