Show Record 350 than the Green River because it is a larger stream. Generally the Colorado is about twenty- five per cent larger than the Green River through all or the months except March. I believe the slope of the Green and in general the characteristics of the two 351 rivers are not materially different. Between the town of Green River and the mouth of the San Rafael the Green River flows through a more or less open valley, where the canyon walls may be 100 or 50 feet as a maximum, but the average width above the San Rafael is not materially greater than or materially different from its 352 average width below the San Rafael. I do not believe that the river surface shows any difference in width, whether it is flowing through the river valley or flowing between high rock walls. Below Moab, on the Colorado River, there is no such open country as 353 on the Green. At Roaring Canyon, at the junction of the Green and Colorado, and probably at other places, one can climb out from the 354 river to the surrounding country. There are several side washes which come down to the Green River, but practically no river tributaries below the San Rafael that flow water continuously. John F. Deeds testified for complainant on direct examination as follows: 358- 360 I am Chief of the Agricultural Division, Conservation Branch, Geological Survey. Exhibit No. 99 was prepared under my supervision and direction, and the compilations there appearing were made from records on file in the department and partly from records of the U. S. Weather Bureau in the Department of Agriculture. Said Exhibit No. 99, being a precipitation map of the Colorado River Basin in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado was received in evidence. - 44- 1159 |
