Show Record General Land Office that this plat is a true and correct copy of 201 the field notes. We were met at the mouth of the Green River by Virgil Baldwin in the motor- boat with an assistant. I had never seen Cataract Canyon and the first day we ran down to about two miles below the junction with the outboard motor, and next day walked down to the first cataract and took photographs of the first and second cataracts, but made no attempt to survey or navigate the 202 cataracts. I have shown in red on Plate 13 of Exhibit 10 the location and number of all rapids and in green the points where because of the slope there is in all probability rapid water. In white I have indicated the points where, because of the slope, there is in all probability there is quiet water. I response to questions by defendant's attorney, Mr. Hoyt testified: 205 I have never been through Cataract Canyon, except to look at the first, second and third rapids. The records of the Department of the Interior disclose certain rapids as existing in that 206 canyon and they are named and their location is fixed. Resuming his direct examination, Mr. Hoyt testified: 209 After viewing the two cataracts I and my party proceeded 210 back up the Colorado River. Photographs 147, 56 and 6 are views of the slide located about 1.8 miles above the junction of the Green and Colorado. At medium low water the channel of the river itself is approximately 100 feet wide at the slide; and the velocity 211 of water there is much greater than above or below. Proceeding up the Colorado River, Mr. Baldwin, assisted by Messrs. Morris and Moyer, operated the large motor boat, Mr. Blake and I operated our row boat with an outboard motor, and the large motor- boat towed the 212 canoe.
