Show Record possible to get boats upstream in Glen Canyon and to get them clear up to Dark Canyon Rapids from Lee's Ferry. At the stage of water present when we made the trip it would be a herculean task and boats could not then be rowed up; they would have to be lined 95 up, or, with strong motors, could be propelled upstream. I do not think boats could be poled up because of the quick sands along the shore. Before running rapids you look them over. In cataract 96 Canyon you can walk along shore at any place. The approved method of going through a rapid is stern first. Clyde L. Eddy testified on recross examination as follows: 97 In my judgment, with the water at the stage it was when I took this trip, I could go up the Colorado River in a motor 98 boat from Lee's Ferry to Cataract Canyon. Starting from the head of the first rapids in Cataract Canyon I think a motor boat could make the journey on the river up to the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers and from the confluence up the Green River to Green river, Utah. This could be done without any insurmountable difficulties. Clyde L. Eddy testified on further redirect examination as follows: In making this trip there would be plenty of trouble with the attendant danger of sand bars and rocks. Clyde L.
