Fall, 1977 Prepared Oil Shale Report from which High Country News article was written - co authored, with Bruce Hamilton, Editor 1977 Summer Participated in 3 day Symposium, Jackson, Wyoming, Forest Service Range & Wildlife Experiment Station, Missoula, Montana, for Forest Service staff: Forest/ plant cover relationships - Indicator species, for use in logging. One day Symposium - "Future of Idaho", Pocatello; , Phosphate ore mining, power development, etc. Meeting with Jack Ward Thomas, Wildlife Research Experiment Station, La Grande, Oregon. Discussion of Draft Manual on Management of Wildlife and Wildlife Requirements for logging purposes. (Page 3) My purpose was to follow-up with meetings with Forest Supervisors at Payette and Boise National Forests - both committed to timber production at any costs! Three day field trip into an Idaho roadless area near McCall,for wilderness classification, RARE II. Participant in Team Review of planning for Charles M. Russell Wildlife Refuge, Montana 1977- !978 Worked In Utah one year drawing up a citizen proposal for a High Uintas Wilderness and initiated group opposition to current CUP planning and developments on Uinta Range south and west slopes. Utah - Wilderness Wilderness proposal, In association with Wilderness Society: brochure, justification, presentation to Forest Service and Congressional delegations Monitored Governor's Wilderness Sub-Committee meetings set up to determine State Philosophy and Policy for Wilderness. - Wildlife Tried to pursuade Governor to deny Anschutz Co. from exploring in State Roadless Area in Book Cliffs - for oil and gas. Valuable wildlife habitat. |
