Show Resume, Dorothy Harvey, continued 1973- 197^ 1978 1975 1976 Winter 1976 Summer Raised funds to try to support habitat research on Wasatch National Forest (Utah State University Development Fund) Contributed $1,000 from this fund to support first year study by Utah State University students; the migrating raptors over Welleseville Mountain Range, Logan, Utah Caribou National Forest, Idaho: Researched Issues of impacts on wildlife resources on and around Caribou National Forest from stripmining for phosphate ore. 16 mining companies planning development which would be devastating to stream and terrestrial wildlife. Worked with State Fish & Game, Idaho Wildlife Society, Caribou Forest wildlife biologist.* Met and consulted with staffs of Agencies transferred for opposing development or quit in despair. Prepared 21 page report for all major news media to develop concern - none Interested, none interested ' in Idaho. League of Women Voters and other groups subsequently began to learn about the issue and develop concern. Grays Lake Whooping Crane experiment. Keynote Speaker at Idaho and Utah Wildlife Society Annual Meetings. Also spoke at Col1>ranroHr Grand Junction) Wildlife Society Annual Meeting: subject of impacts from phosphate ore development on wildlife resources. Oil Shale Area, Northeast Utah, to prepare article for High Country News on impacts on wildlife and fisheries from oil shale development. Dep't Interior initiated prototype oil shale development planning; 2nd meeting in Vernal in July. Areas covered In research: - Brown's Park - Oil Shale Area, Tracts Ua and Ub - Book Cliffs - White River Agencies I worked with: (Staffs flew me over or drove me through areas) - Bureau of Land Management, Vernal District - Ashley National Forest - State Division of Wildlife Resources - U.S.Fish & Wildlife Service Other - Utah State U. revegetation of spent shale research - Utah Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit on R & E fish species - Rod Drewein, Idaho Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit - Whooping Crane experiment. One Whooper has summered at Pelican Lake, near Ouray Refuge - Three day field trip with State Predator Biologist in Book Cliffs *U.S. Forest Service revegetation research, Logan, Ut. |
