INTERVIEt-1: Mayer Page 35 up and they were afraid b cause the lady had told him that he had t'vo guns, but he had thrown the guns away about two or three blocks before because he, they didn't have anything in them and he wasn't going to shoot the police, he wasn't the kind. But anyway when they told him to put your hands up, they shot him through the stomach and he died of it. BM: And he didn't have any guns on him? MM: Not one gun on him, but the police thought that he had the guns·~ and they were afraid of him, but that was the cause of his death not because he robbed or he was a criminal or anything like that, it was just a fight between this other guy, this Mexican guy. But the fellow, about so many years later he killed a guy; He really killed a guy, he shot rim right there on Second South. He was in the penitentiary for about ten years I think, ten or fifteen years. And the consul kind of helped him get out because, well, I don't know he wasn't married or either he was a good guy in jail and so they let him out. He's married and he's got about ten kids now and they're living in Salt Lake now. BM: Did, this is ·when you were living on the west side? MM: Yes, when my brothers were still, when they were still alive, you know, I had him and another one and another one, four brothers. He died, and then my brothers never tried to, you know, like you said the Mexicans are kind of how can I say it, when they do some­thing to one of your brothers they always have to kind of get even
