Show The following is an interview with Mrs. Bertha Amador Mayer, conducted by Margie Archuleta and Bernice Martfnez in ·Bountiful, Utah, on June 20, 1972. Part II NA: Mrs. Mayer, ·I would like to ask you, could you elaborate a little bit more on the Civic Center and some of the activities that you did there? MM: Well, I took very much, it was in 1935, 36, we were very active in the Civic Center. My husband was the president of the Civic Center and I was very much involved in the programs. We had dinners tG raise funds and we were very, we didn't make very much money, but we fed them good. We had tostadas and a lot of good things, but we didn't sell them for the price that we should have so we didn't make any money really. We had a second south where they used to have their meetings there for this beer joint and I used to take, bring the children and teach them how to dance and sing songs of Old Mexico. And, of course, I was involved in the whole thing and .my husband and people that worked with him and we took the whole program over the whole program, all children most of them children and, of course~ I took part in it too. I used to sing in it too. I used to sing old fashion songs like Estrellita and like I can't remember the song Amapola and all the old songs, I can't remember. MA: Besides the fund raising activities what other kind of activities did you have? I mean like •.. MM: At home? MA: No, at the Civic Center. |
