Show INTERVIEW: Jose Martinez Page 5 VM: Well, the area that you were acquainted with in New Mexico, your town? JM: I, I don't understand how you say. How? VM: Were there many who went to work out of state during the Second World War? JM: Yes. A lot of people you see, people, some went to Wyoming, some of them to Arizona, some to California different all over the states. VM: Did they have representatives recruiting from California and Arizona as well? JM: I think so, I think they have. VM: Now, after you moved your family to Green River, how long did you remain in Green River after 1951? JM: Oh, I only, my family stay over there. After I bring my family I been over there about, about nine months and then I got layed off from my job because they were laying off men, you see, and I was one of the youngest guys that got layed off, and then I came to Bingham. I was going to go to Nevada, to Las Vegas, Nevada to look for a job over there then I stop here in Bingham and there was a lot of my country men, my country people from New Mexico and they ask me to stay there and look for a job over there for Kennecott. I went to look for a job there for Kennecott, then I went to look for a job for Kennecott, first I went to look for a job in the U.S. Mine in Copperfield, but a friend |
