Show Record The Glen Canyon site has been proposed for complete control 4082 of the river, that is, to store the complete flow of the river and utilize it both for irrigation and power purposes. There is a dam site shown near Bluff and its purpose would be to control the San Juan River. The San Juan has been considered one of the principal sources of the silt that causes so much trouble in the lower Colorado, and if we could control that silt there, it would prolong the life of any reservoir built lower down. Charles Arthur Bissell testified on cross examination 4083 as follows: The purposes of the dam sites and reservoir sites in general, concerning which I have testified, are similar to the purpose of Boulder Dam, and as expressed by Congress in the Boulder Dam Act. They were investigated by this Bureau prior to the determination of the feasibility of Boulder Cam Canyon, and since its feasibility has been recommended, we have done no further work on it. 4084 I do not believe the Boulder Dam will interfere with the construction of the other dams that are commercially feasible. The Boulder Dam will supply, so far as irrigation goes, the acreage that those reservoirs were proposed to supply storage for. Those reservoirs were proposed to supply storage for irrigation and flood control for this lower valley, which the Boulder Dam will supply the same section that might have been in part supplied by these other dams. 4085 Frederick R. Dudley testified for complainant of direct examination as follows: 4086 I live at Livingston Heights, Virginia. I am a lawyer. I am connected with the Reclamation and Right of Way Division of the General Land Office. Complainant's Exhibit 9 represents certain withdrawals 587 1706 |
