Show JOLLEY'S FOLLY, OR FOLLYING STALE SPOOR We listened tensely to the faint mufflled roaring that came to us as we trip-trode up the stairs. Undaunted by the ominous bellow (the thinking bellow yellows fellow) dauntless] y we went forward undaunted. We had left our daunt downstairs, and were forced to return for good old Daunt, the lead dog of our expedition. There he was in the plumbing, practically eating off the hand of Reuben Jolley, for whom we had trekked intrepidly through virgin (and experienced) forests. Daunt was beginning on Jolley's wrist as we leaped from our rickshaws. There is nothing like a good old gin-rickshaw to leap from, or indeed, at. Daunt by now had the upper hand, as well as Jolley's elbow, and was scrunching on his midriff. Soon after this Jolley disappeared entirely, closely followed by Daunt. Again we were Daunt-less. However we traced Jollev by his spoor, which he had flung carelessly over some stools. Jolley, like all plumbers, often forgot his stools. Baiting one of his stools with a fresh pigeon, we hid ourselves near the waterhole. We had not long to wait, for the long-sought bellow was soon heard. Smashing Jolley, in the plumbing, dictates manuscript to self. Daunt, the Bird-dog of the expedition heavily through the thick Fuller underbrush, Jollev appeared, uttering the hoarse roar whose meaning we had been sent to discover. We listened tensely. At last! The secret was solved! The huge bellow was only the voice of Jollev cheering himself. Let us trip-troc away as he munches happily on his pigeon. Mrs. Just Married: I'm sorry, dear, but dinner is a little burnt tonight-Mr. Just Married: What- Did they have a lire at the delicatessen today? Once upon a time a man, a very ideal man, got up early one Sunday morning to let the ice man in. Not being able to find his robe, he put on his wife's. When he opened the door the worthy ice man greeted him with a nice big hug and kiss. The only way this ideal man could figure it out was that the ice man's wife had a robe just like the one he had on, and the ice man forgot where he was. 333 |
