Show sweet temperaments of apt and eager pupils of this lesson permeated the entire atmosphere of the school and aroused such an appetite for sweetness in others that the demonstrators were overwhelmed.Senior Chapel DayClad in the traditional cap and gown, significant of scholarly attainment, the members of the Class of 1912, on April 3, made their initial appearance as college graduates. The sixty young people in formal black, grouped on the platform amid a profusion of palms, flags and flowers, gave an atmosphere of graceful impress-iveness which went well with the nature of the exercises. The Rev. Mr. P. A. Simpkin was speaker of the day.At the reception held during the afternoon in the Library Building, a throng of students and friends enjoyed the hospitality of the Seniors and basked in the sweetness of orange sherbet and spice cake, served by the Junior girls to the accompaniment of tantalizing orchestra music.At four o'clock the music waved forth from the Gym, enticing to gay revelry the Seniors and their admiring friends. And the day, begun in solemn march to Wagner's "Nibelungen," ended in a joyous whirl of youthful unconstraint to "Beautiful Lady" and "My Hero."214 |
