Show Inter-class Track Meet, April 19, 1911THE records made in this meet do not indicate the athletic ability of the contestants, for the weather was so unfavorable that poor time was made in all the running events. Kirby, a Freshman, was the star of the day, winning first place in all the dashes. Greenwell, Myers, and Ashton also proved themselves strong representatives of the Freshmen. Peterson was the biggest point winner for the Sophs. The Juniors possessed some real heroes in Dalgleish, Oleson, and Gardner, while Christensen was the only point getter for the Seniors. As usual, the Freshmen won the meet. The Juniors, however, gave them a hard fight for first honors. The Coach discovered some genuine track material in several of the point winners. These men were encouraged to get out and work hard for the 'Varsity.Clearing thethe Barat 5 ft. 5Photo by Ben EllerbeckInter-class Indoor Track Meet, March 20,1912THE first indoor track meet of the University proved a good developer of new material. Jameson, Robison, Hurlbut, and Goss performed in a manner that assured everyone of their ability to make the 'Varsity. The Juniors won the meet easily, the Freshmen being second. A potato race and chinning contest were added to the regular events. These features proved amusing, as well as strenuous. The indoor track was unsatisfactory for sprinting, but for the distance runners it afforded an excellent opportunity for early practice and competition.202 |
