In Algebra, Mr. Keaston eases us into equations by writing simple problems on the board. He asks students to come forward, four at a time, and solve the equations. I fumble through mine, erasing my answer once. When I sit down, Katie is still working on hers. Mr. Keaston posts three new equations, but does nothing to help Katie. Three new students go forward. Finish. Katie is still working; Keaston writes new equations,, then walks oyer to Katie and whispers something. She nods. Writes an answer. He shakes his head and erases. She tries again. He erases that one, too. Finally he writes the answer and Katie sits down, defeated. , , |
