Show Fair Forever 16 "OF COURSE NOT!" he shouts. He writes a giant Xon the blackboard. Chalk spews again. "Xjs the unknown! It represents any number that will answer the question, but we don't know the answer yet. Isn't that fantastic!"' Buddy begins to wobble on his end of the board. Keaston points to a broad shouldered boy on the second row. "Mr. Martinez, would you please stack those pavers on the end of Mr. Evan's board until you can get him to float." Martinez rises gladly and marches to the pile of pavers, grabbing a block in each hand. He starts piling them on the end. The pile grows quickly. Mr. Keaston is grinning even wider than Martinez. "My, that seems like a lot of work" he says. "I wonder if there isn't some way to use algebra to answer the question." Keaston emphasizes the word like it holds mysterious powers. Martinez continues to pile pavers. Some begin to spill. The red headed girl waves her arm frantically. Mr. Keaston points. "Miss McCoy, would you please come to the board and give us an idea?" Redhead struts to the chalk board and writes 4x=96. The numbers are perfectly formed, the x slanted appropriately. She turns to our teacher and beams. "EXACTLY!" Mr. Keaston shouts. His exclamation causes Martinez to drop a paver. The boy grimaces and starts hopping on one foot. Keaston pays no attention. "Now Miss McCoy, how would you solve this algebraic formula?" he asks. Redhead says, "I would divide both sides by 4." Someone in the back pretends to snore. |
