With this burst of fine weather came track season. The new track season brought a new coach, Marvin Hess. Coach Hess replaced Pete Couch who had headed Utah's track wars for ten years. Marv is one of the all-time great athletes to graduate from Utah. He lettered in football, basketball, and track before graduating in 1950. Since that time he has served as head wrestling coach and as an assistant in football. The prospects for track in 1958 looked rather dim, as only nine men were returning from the 1957 squad and only five of these scored points in the Skyline meet last year. With these as a nucleus, Coach Hess began to build his first track team. Left to Right, Row One: Larry Knowles, Max Ewing, Mickey Jones, Jack Airmet, Tom Connon.
