Assisted by the debate council and by student manager Frank Rose, he has arranged many contests, and his proteges have acquitted themselves with honors. The great triumph of the season was the debate with the University of Southern California from which Utah emerged victorious. The question contested was: "Resolved that the nations of the world should adopt a policy of free trade." Paul Iverson and Edward Sheya, the University of Utah team, defended the negative side of the question. The complete men's varsity squad was made up of many veteran debaters including Paul Iverson, Frank Rose, Edward She}^a, Charles Welch, Ted Moss, Charles Jay Parkinson, Weston Clark, Orlando Bowman, Joseph Williams, George Morris, Thomas Madron, Frank Ford, and Vivian Gubler.DEBATEOccidental College debated here in February on the free trade question. It was a non-decision debate with Jane Rice and Frank Rose upholding the affirmative. The same question was debated with Northwest Nazarene College with Helen Bunker and Frank Rose representing the University. The University of Utah, B. Y. U., and Utah State Agricultural College participated in a series of triangle debates on the question "Resolved that the State of Utah should establish a system of Junior Colleges." Early in April, Dean Herbert Maw accompanied Edward Sheya and Paul Iverson to California where they met Occidental College and other universities. Charles Jay Parkinson and Ted Moss accompanied by Coach Laverne Bane and manager Frank Rose met a team from the University of Wyoming in Colorado.
