Show REPORT OF AGENCY IN ' FLORIDA. relating all theallotments showing each Indian his lines, and replacing the comer stones, many of which haveldisappeared since the first survey was made. Ignacio subagency.-The huild~ngs here are in a good state of repair. Two new cottages have been erected for employees, and there is still needof two more. There being no fire protection, a system of waterworks is badly needed and has been urgently recommended by Special Agent Pray. All water used at the agency is hauled from the river in barrels. Navajo Springs Agency.-A new bridge has been built over the large arroyo at this agency, greatly facilitatin the hauling of freight, and travel to and from the agency. A new slaughterhouse is L o in course of erection. The eastern half of the Southern Ute Reservation was thrown open to settlement on May 4 last, but little of the nnallottd lands were settled upon, for the reason that the valleys and nearly all the land conti uous to the streams, where water may he had for irrigatin , is allotted, leavin onqy the high mesa lands vacant, conge-quently the opening%= had but little edct on the conditions as they existed prior to that time. In contrast to the steady advancement of the Indiana pf the allotted portion, the condition of those residing on the unallotted half remalns unchanged. As hereto-fore, those who live to the west have no opportunities of bettering their condition, there hein no water in the country, and they arecompelled to liveout in the moun-tains in o$er to he near water, fuel, and ass. This state of affairs can never be remedied until these people are providzwith the long-promised water suppl When this is done the rich lands that lie around Navajo Spnngs will take on a vasty; different appearance. The longdela~in commencing this pmposed work bas bmught the Indians to believe that the promlses of the Government are of littleconseqnence. Thanking the Department for their emnest cooperation with my efforts in behall of the Indians of the Southern Ute Agency, this report is respectfully submitted. Very respectfully, Loms A.
