Show 66 REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER OF INDIAN AFFAIRS. opposite the towns of Clarkville and Paris, in the State of Texas; thence in a southerly direction to said mentioned points. No maps of definite location of the company have yet been filed for approval. Fort Smith and Western Railroad Company.-By act of Congress approved March 3,1899 (30 Stats., 1368, and p. 514 of this report), the above-named company was granted right of way for the constrnction of a railway, telegraph, and telephone line through the Choctaw and Creek nations, in the Indian Territory, beginning at a point to be selected by said company ou the western boundary line of the State of Arkansas,at or near the city of Fort Smith, and running thence by the most feasible and practicable route in and through the Choctaw Nation in a southwesterly and westerly direction through the counties of Scullyville, Sen Boise, Gaines, and Tohucksey, and crossing the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway at or near the South Canadian, continuing thence westerly to the South Canadian River; thence uorth-westerly through the Creek Nation, Indian Territory, to a point on the westeru boundary thereof near the Sac and Fox Agency. The com-pany has filed in this office, for the purpose of barring subsequent claims for damages for settlement and improvement8 npou the com- ~mny's right of way, a map showing the definite location of the com-pany's line of mad for the first 50 miles southwesterly from the town of Fort Smith. Section 8 of the act p~ovides that a map showing the entire line of the road in the Indian Territory shall be filed with and. approved by the Secretary of the Interior before the construction of the road shall be commenced. Nee Perce Indian Lands, Idaho.-Clmrwotw IJalley Railroad Com-pany.- By act of Congress approved February 28,1899 (30 Stats., and p. 496 of this report), the above-named company was granted right of way tbrough the Nee Perce Indian lands, in Idaho, beginning on the north side of the Clearwater River at the western boundary of the reservation; thence along the north bank of said Clearwater River in an easterly direction to a point nearly opposite the month of the Lap-wai Creek; thence crossing to the south bank of said Clearwater River to a point within said Indian agency grounds in section 22, township 36 north, range 4 west of the Boise meridian; thence along the sonth bank of the Clearwater River to the mouthof the Big Canyon; thence up the Big Cmyon in a southeasterly direction to the junction of the Big and Little Canyons; thence up the valley of the Little Canyon in a general easterly directiou to the Boise meridian; thence along the valley of the Little Canyon in a general southerly and southeasterly direction to a divide between the watersheds of Little Canyon and Lawyer8 Canyon; thence in a southerly and southwesterly direction up Lawyers Canyon to the southeast boundary of the reservation.
