Upperside dark-purplish brown, the inner half of the hind wing clothed with a few pale brown hairs; the fringe at the anal angle almost white. The underside pale brown glossed with purple, with a small indistinct white spot near the anal angle. Exp. If in. Angola. Type, Mus. Druce. Mr. Monteiro only obtained a single specimen of this species. Genus CARYSTUS, Hiibn. C. LAUFELLA, Hew. Ex. Butt. iv. Hesp. t. 2. f. 28-30 (1867).
